Terms of Service
The short version: we build you an honest starter website from your answers, you pay $299 (plus optional care), and we both agree to be straight with each other. The details are below.
Effective July 20, 2026. These are starter terms for the Firstrung service; the operating business entity is Firstrung, a sole proprietorship operated by Chris Ellington, based in Virginia, USA. Have them reviewed by a qualified professional before relying on them commercially.
1. The agreement
By using this website or ordering a site from Firstrung (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you're using the Service for a business, you confirm you're authorized to act for it.
2. What we provide
Firstrung builds a personalized starter website for your business based on the answers you give in our intake form. This is a deliberately streamlined tier: it's genuinely good and tailored to you, but it has a lower customization ceiling than a fully bespoke build. We describe it honestly throughout this site so you can decide with clear eyes.
3. Pricing & payment
- $299 one-time to build and launch your starter site.
- $39/month optional care for ongoing updates, hosting help, and maintenance. Cancel anytime; you keep your site and content.
- Add-ons from $149 each, priced by scope, if you want extra pages or features.
We'll confirm the details and share a preview before anything goes live and before you pay. Prices are in US dollars and may change for future orders.
4. What we need from you
Accurate answers, and the right to use any text, logos, or images you send us. Please don't provide content you don't own or have permission to use. You're responsible for what you ask us to publish.
5. Your content and ownership
Your business name, content, and domain are yours. If you move on or step up to a full custom build, your domain and content go with you. The underlying templates, code, and tooling that power the Service remain ours.
6. The upgrade path
The starter tier is the first rung. If you outgrow it, the fully custom, professionally-built site is a separate, quoted service offered through our sibling brand. Choosing to upgrade is entirely up to you.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service for anything unlawful, deceptive, or harmful, and don't ask us to build a site that infringes others' rights or breaks the law. We may decline or stop work that crosses those lines.
8. Reasonable expectations
We aim to get your site live in about a week after we have your answers, but timelines are estimates, not guarantees. We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill; we can't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is," and our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid us for it. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses.
10. Ending the arrangement
You can cancel the optional care plan at any time. Either of us may end the working relationship if the other materially breaches these terms. Sections meant to survive — like ownership and liability — continue afterward. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the "last updated" date and post the new version here. Continuing to use the Service means you accept the current version.
