Privacy Policy
Plain-language version: we collect only what we need to build and deliver your website, we don't sell it, and you can ask us to delete it. The details are below.
Effective July 20, 2026. This is a starter policy for the Firstrung service; the operating business entity is Firstrung, a sole proprietorship operated by Chris Ellington, based in Virginia, USA. Have it reviewed by a qualified professional before relying on it commercially.
Who we are
"Firstrung" (the "Service," "we," "us") builds personalized starter websites for local businesses from a short intake questionnaire. This policy explains what information we collect through this website and how we use it.
What we collect
We collect two kinds of information:
- What you give us in the get-started form. Your business name, line of work, city or service area, phone number (optional), email address, your style preferences, and any notes you add. You choose what to share, and you tell us to collect it by submitting the form.
- Anonymous usage analytics. As you browse, we record privacy-conscious, aggregate signals — pages viewed, how far you scroll, roughly where on a page you click, and which links you follow. These signals are not tied to your name and do not include anything you type into a form field. See the Cookie & Analytics Notice below.
Why we use it
- To build, personalize, and deliver your starter website.
- To contact you about your site — confirming details, sharing a preview, and answering questions.
- To understand, in aggregate, how this website is working so we can improve it.
We do not use your intake details for unrelated marketing without asking you first.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- Our anonymous analytics don't capture the contents of form fields, and they respect browser signals like Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers we need to run the Service — for example, hosting and email delivery — and only so they can perform that work on our behalf. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your intake details for as long as needed to build and support your site, and then only as long as we reasonably need for our records. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.
Your choices
- Ask us what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted.
- Decline non-essential analytics using your browser's privacy controls (GPC/DNT), which we honor.
- Simply not submit the form — browsing this site never requires it.
Cookie & Analytics Notice
This site does not run third-party advertising cookies. It uses a small amount of first-party storage (for example, remembering your light/dark theme choice and an anonymous session identifier) and a privacy-conscious analytics script served from this site — no external tracking networks and no third-party CDNs at runtime.
The analytics record only aggregate, non-identifying interaction signals (page views, scroll depth, coarse click position, link clicks). They do not read the text you enter into form fields and are disabled automatically when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.
Children
The Service is for businesses and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we update this policy, we'll change the "last updated" date above and post the new version here.
